El Dingo Posted July 11, 2008 Report Posted July 11, 2008 The petition can be found at http://petitions.pm.gov.uk This is in the news now and affects all Galaxy's back to those registered after March 2001. If you want to have your voice heard, and not just sit there and take a shafting, why not sign the petition? seatkid Posted July 11, 2008 Report Posted July 11, 2008 Where's the petition to increase VED even further for all those whingers that complain? And I would sign that petition to tax everyone earning more than Quote
El Dingo Posted July 12, 2008 Author Report Posted July 12, 2008 Nice one SK. :( The tax and non-domiciled bit I can go along with, but not the bit about birching, unless you want to do that in a German accent.Paranoia aside, how are your shares doing at the moment? It's the retrospective part of the VED that's particularly galling. And the fact that there are seven seats in a Galaxy - after all, why buy a Galaxy if you don't need lots of seats? (Hence the emissions per person is lower than other cars, but they still get taxed on CO2 per vehicle.) Quote
nigelbb Posted July 12, 2008 Report Posted July 12, 2008 (edited) As I understand that the proposed rise in Road Tax is not coming in until 2009 at the earliest I don't see how in any way it can be described as retrospective. The bands & levels have just been changed that's all. It happens all the time with income tax & nobody screams that it's retrospective. They might complain if they are losers (like with the 10p income tax band) but losers are bound to make more noise than winners in any re-jigging of tax. BTW I don't want to be smug but the French equivalent of Road Tax (vignette) was abolished for private motorists several years ago. Edited July 12, 2008 by nigelbb Quote
seatkid Posted July 14, 2008 Report Posted July 14, 2008 (edited) Paranoia aside, how are your shares doing at the moment? :)Probably a rhetorical question by El Dingo but following the announcement by the US fed on Sunday of US taxpayer support for Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, GLOBAL MELTDOWN IS NOW ALMOST INEVITABLE. For those that don't know, this is similar to a Northern Rock Bail out, except the two instutions have Edited July 14, 2008 by seatkid Quote

seatkid Posted July 14, 2008 Report Posted July 14, 2008 (edited) High petrol prices are good for us, says Cabinet minister and so are high VED rates! :) Edited July 14, 2008 by seatkid Quote
